Gihun is a second-year PhD student in the Counseling Psychology program at the University of Iowa and also a certified school counselor (전문상담교사 in Korean) in South Korea. He previously worked at the headquarters office of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education for 3 years.
His research aims to 1) uncover oppression & resilience in marginalized spaces (particularly LGBTQ+ communities), 2) examine AI ethics and client experiences in mental health care through psychological lens, 3) develop the foundations of social justice advocacy training for practitioners, and 4) amplify underrepresented voices through participatory research.
In the Relational Resilience (R²) Lab, Gihun coordinates the PracAI project, with a particular focus on how AI-enabled training and support can be designed for equity-centered practice in marginalized communities.
